For the 5,495,854 time, I am not a racer.
Lord knows I don’t frequent the podium, and luckily, I am motivated by reasons other than a goal race to get my booty out of bed at crazy early am to run. (Not that it’s always fun to throw back the covers so early)
When I do race it’s because races = runners, and runners = really cool, fun people. Oh, and race shirts, because they always rock.
All of this means that generally I don’t set specific goals. Instead I just enjoy the ride.
Well, that all went to heck this past Sunday, when I set out for my morning run with no real plan or pace in mind.
With the Midtown Series 10k scheduled for next Saturday, I didn’t want to go too crazy with the distance, and the weather was Perfect with a capital P, so I decided 10 sounded lovely!
When my first mile was 7:45, I didn’t give much credence to it considering half of it was down hill. After my first few miles hovered around and 8:00 pace, I was pleased and decided I would try to maintain that for the duration of the run.
“Maybe an 8:00 1/2 is doable…”
“Maybe a 7:45 1/2 is doable, My race is not until November after all…”
Aye Yi Yi!
That is what is remarkable about running, and why I love it so, so, much; sometimes, we surprise ourselves. Running teaches you not to underestimate yourself. Running also teaches you not to be cocky as it knocks you on your butt more often than not
Do I know if a 7:45 minute per mile pace is realistic for me for a half? No, it probably is, but only time and more running will tell
And now, for your daily dose of random:
Unlike 99.99 percent of the country, I am indeed, not insanely obsessed with Target. I like it sure, and it has super duper cute products but I am unable to walk out of the store with my paycheck in tact not because I don’t buy adorable things I don’t need, but because they never have half of the products I do!
So why do I still shop there?
One reason, this stuff:
Target brand coffee not only comes in wonderfully unique flavors, but the stuff is delicious! This new Caramel Apple flavor most certainly does not disappoint!
How often do you surprise yourself?
Are you addicted to Target? What is your favorite thing to buy there?
